For the Millennium, we commissioned a Landscape Management & Conservation Plan, taking advantage of a generous grant from English Heritage. This is a blueprint for the regular management and future development of the Landscape. It was completed by Patrick James of the Landscape Agency.
Recently we have completed:
- Restoration of the Museum Temple - stonework and re-leading.
- Reopening of the North Drive and installation of a new gate at the North Lodge.
- Planting broad-leaved limes outside the exisiting lime avenue as the next generation of avenue trees in the Park.
- Replacement of urns at the cascade ponds (copied from those at the Parterre).
- Relining of the T-Pond with 3,300 tons of clay, in order to restore its waterproofing.
- Archaeological investigation of the Queen's Hollow and the former cascade to the Parterre.
- Geophysical survey of the bridges and former haha on the Broadwalk.
Currently we are undertaking:
- Opening-up the overgrown rides in Black Fen and restoration of their drainage.
- Rebuilding and repointing the garden haha wall.
- Restoring and refloating of the Queen's Hollow and Parterre ponds and restoration of the connecting cascade.
- Updating the landscape management & conservation plan.
Our future plans include:
- Laying out a new decorative parterre on the garden front of the House.
- Restoration of the cascade and ponds into the valley below the Obelisk Pond.
- Restoration of the interior of the Round House.
- Restoration of the Gothic Temple.
- Restoration of the Whittle Car Grotto, where the T-Pond spring emerges.
